THE
SHOES AND CLOTHES PROGRAMME (KENYA)
Many
Orphans go around with NO shoes on their feet - they cant
afford them; or they just have flip-flops/slippers. This leads
to cuts, grazes and various foot injuries resulting in Jiggers
(worms in the feet) and in TETANUS infections, from which many children
die, mostly the under-fives. WE
NEED: shoes all sizes (especially ladies' 7).
Almost all Orphans in Kenya go around with old, worn and torn
clothes - often dirty also. The beaming faces of a boy or girl who
has just exchanged their rags for decent clean clothes is a sight
to gladden one's heart.
In
Bungoma, many children are dressed in (literally) rags.
Gifts of quality, light-weight clothes for boys and girls of all
ages, in good condition, are very welcomed.
Remember: Kenya, being on the Equator, has a HOT climate - 16ºC (min) to 45ºC
(thats 60.8ºF to 113ºF). Light-weight woollens are
helpful in the cold nights, down to 16ºC - warm
for us but cold for them.
